Cape Verde to Gambia

Sailing from Sal to Gambia

Whilst living in Sal , I was given the opportunity to crew on a catamaran for 3-4 months with Robin & Barbara

This gave me an insight into to marine life of the coast of Africa,

Seeing Dolphins ( several species )  Humpback Whales & calf’s,  Pilot Whales and obviously the  regular ” flying fish. “

From this friendship we had the opportunity to Sail to Gambia for Christmas and N Year .

The trip took  6ohrs to sail to Banjul where we spent Christmas eve registering all the visa and entry documents.

Then it was up the river to Lamin lodge.

Then we continued  Farafenni and up towards the Hippo’s and fresh water river

The trip took 3 weeks  and involved  visiting local villages up the river.

Yet another memorable trip and experience that I feel extremely lucky to have been given the opportunity to do.  Currently there are sailing yachts that can be chartered and will sail around the Cape Verde Islands ,  or day trips in the bay looking for the resident pod of Pilot whales and passing dolphins .
