Turtle Patrols with Project Biodiversity

Turtle Patrol and volunteering with Project Biodiversity .

Living on Sal has given me some amazing opportunities and one that I will always cherish is working with Project Biodiversity and the Turtle project

As you will have already noticed a theme with Turtles – Beach – Beach Cleans and also working with friends on the bird conservation ( pictures to follow )

Spending 10 yrs in Sal and 8yrs protecting the beaches from poachers and protecting the Loggerhead turtles.

Our experiance ranges from night patrols walks 8pm -2am and at Serra Negra 1am- 6am ish  having seen and sat with more than 800 female Loggerheads nesting on the beaches of Sal it has to be a major highlight in anyone’s life .

Morning turtles – hatchlings -excavating nests and watching hatchling arriving into the world are all but some of the experience’s

Below are just some of the fond memories

Turtle tracks on Bay 4 Serra Negra . This was a 1am-6am shift and obviously a lot of tracks to record and possibly re locate.

This is a turtle that nested this is the up track with the down on the left. The nest was relocated to a beach that would not wash the eggs away.

Hatchling time ! releasing babies early morning back into the  sea for them hopefully to return possibly 18-20 years later..
